Since photography, travelling and storytelling have grown to be my favourite things to do in my spare time I decided to create a dedicated website to show off my work. The goal was to give it a visually appealing, minimal and modern look.

ResearchOriginally evolving out of a web page dedicated to my freelance work focusing on PCB design and software development, I wanted to start fresh since this web page would focus on a way different audience and user base. I started off by looking at different websites and work from established photographers in the industry of visual storytelling such as @frauki, @withluke, @petermckinnon and @angela.neururer.

DevelopmentI really liked the idea of a statement picture when entering the homepage, similar to petermckinnon.com. In the first version only 3 tabs existed: home, work and about. The about page should be dedicated to all sorts of photography projects including a main overview with individual html pages for the projects showing off the images in a visually pleasing grid alignment. The about section is all about me, my background and links to my mail and socials.
I was clear from the get-go that I wanted to design it solely by myself. Even thought there are plenty of good-looking templates out there, nothing is better than saying you built your own website. By using HTMl, CSS and Bootstrap I started creating solution based on the design ideas and inspiration gathered during the research phase. Working with version control software made it easy to keep track of the changes and progess made. I split the work into milestones and created specific timelines in Notion for specific add-ons and designs.

Release and (Future) Add-OnsIt took several iteration to refine and enhance elements like the work grid or a dedicated template for the blogs. Another huge topic was the mobile-CSS integration, which definitely exceeded my expections in regards to time consumption and necessary adaptions.
The minimalistic design using a distinct font-family, fitting colors and few, cohesive and minimal elements make it stand out and a perfect fit for its purpose: a relaxing space inviting you to get lost in images of nature, road trips and unforgetable moments.
